Brechtfest VI, the sixth annual New Orleans celebration of the writings of German poet and playwright Bertolt Brecht will take place on Monday February 10 and Tuesday February 11 at the Allways Lounge Twilight Room. Both shows are at 8:30pm. The performance includes music, spoken word, and puppetry. Presenters David C. Symons (accordion) and Harry Mayronne (piano and puppetry) are joined by musicians Jennie Brent (cello), David Buchbinder (trumpet), Hannah Davis (percussion), Drayton Aldridge (violin), Stoo Odom (upright bass), and Susanne Ortner (clarinet).
Featured performers include Kitty Baudoin, Sarah Brecht, Bremner Fletcher, Karen Kunkel, Donald Lewis, Anna Laura Quinn, Stephanie Reed, and Chris Wecklein.
The performers’ collective credits include Broadway, Berliner Ensemble, the original production of Anais Mitchell’s “Hadestown”, Edinburgh Fringe, and Provincetown Tennessee Williams Festival, as well as the Allways Lounge productions of Brecht/Weill’s “The Threepenny Opera” and “Happy End” (both co-produced with Cripple Creek theatre); and the bands The Flying Bulgar Klezmer Band and The Salt Wives.
The performance features the music of Weill, Eisler, Symons, Mayronne, and Buchbinder. A portion of the proceeds will benefit Innocence Project New Orleans.
